It’s the time of year that every parent approaches with some trepidation – but for Kate Hudson, the start of the new school term must be more emotional than most. For while many mothers will be dabbing away a tear as they wave goodbye to their child at the gates, poor Kate has to leave her lover on the other side of the world too. The 31-year-old Hollywood starlet flew out of Heathrow and back to New york earlier today to take six-year-old son Ryder back to school, but was forced to leave behind British rockstar lover Matt Bellamy of Muse because of his European touring commitments. Looking stunning in black blazer, matching black stiletto boots and white and blue pinstripe trousers with a white t-shirt, her son Ryder looked as glum as his mother to be leaving British soil and going back home. Though with Ryder, that may be more to the prospect of returning to a classroom at his New York City school rather than leaving his mother’s new friend Matt behind. |

Last night’s episode of The Rachel Zoe Project was all about, well, nothing. But while the episode was missing its usual “OMG SO MUCH DRAMZ” narrative arc, it did feature plenty of a very bubbly Kate Hudson and a delightful scene with Donatella Versace. Rodger, Brad, Rachel, and her “gaggle of gays” are en route from New York to Milan when Rachel decides to go all fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pantsy and meet longtime client and BFF Kate Hudson in London for the Burberry show. Hudson gets a lot of screen time in this episode which, for some reason, feels kind of strange. She makes a grand entrance — all $35 vintage fur coat, gasping excitement, and clearly a little wonky from the transatlantic flight — and we can’t tell if, since this is clearly Kate’s first foray into reality tv, she’s playing things up a bit for the camera. They go to the Burberry show, which is exciting and all, but what’s more exciting is what happens in the car on the way back. While the two kvell over the Steve Nicks soundtrack designer Christopher Bailey chose for the show, Hudson breaks into song. And it turns out, the girl can sing. |

ACTRESS Kate Hudson talks about her new boyfriend and her ex-husband in a new interview in British Elle magazine. While she revealed that her new lover, Muse’ frontman Matt Bellamy, was “lovely”, she said she isn’t looking for marriage right now. “Matt and I are just learning about each other and it’s wonderful,” she said. She added that her divorce after nearly six years of marriage from another muso, Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, in 2007, hasn’t put her off committing in the future. “It’s definitely not something I’m looking for. But the divorce doesn’t put me off. I think a lot of times people are terrified of love and stop themselves from experiencing it. I don’t ever want to get that jaded. I’ll just see what happens. I think a lot of times people are terrified of love and stop themselves from experiencing it,” Hudson said. “I don’t ever want to get that jaded. I do believe in love. I believe that when you really open yourself up to love, it’s the most beautiful thing.” Hudson also said that she would be happy to tour with Robinson. “When I was with Chris, music was my life – I spent seven years on the road. Would I do it again? I wouldn’t shy away from a tour bus, it’s wonderful.” Hudson said she kept in regular touch with Robinson. ” I still feel close to him. When you’re divorced and raising a child together, the communication has to stay alive. It’s hard sometimes. If you have kids with someone, make sure you really, really like the father because, for your child’s sake, you have to be on the same page forever. “Chris has moved on, he’s remarried and had a baby and when you both have new people in your life, you have to really stay on it. I think Chris and I both have that priority checked.” |

She has just revealed that she would love to tour with boyfriend Matt Bellamy’s band Muse. And if she is going to be following them around the world, it is only natural that the actress would want to get better acquainted with other members of the hugely successful band. Kate and Matt dined with his band mate Dominic Howard at exclusive London restaurant The Ivy last night. The dinner obviously went well, as the trio headed round the corner to the Groucho Club in Soho to continue the night, eventually heading back to their hotel around 2.30am. The 31-year-old, who was married to rocker Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes until 2007, says: ‘When I was with Chris, music was my life – I spent seven years on the road. ‘Would I do it again? I wouldn’t shy away from a tour bus, it’s wonderful.’ |

- Thanks to Jilly again for this news on Earthbound. After numerous delays since the Film Department first announced plans for an initial public offering last December and scheduled it for February, the debt-laden independent film studio has scratched its intentions to sell stock. The company, which hasn’t had a movie in release since last fall’s “Law Abiding Citizen,” initially planned to raise up to $85 million in an IPO then reduced that to $69 million in the spring. As of June 24, it had again lowered the amount of money it wanted to raise to $30 million. It had planned to use the money to pay off debt, which as of March 31 was $27.3 million, and finance a move into distributing its own movies. In an interview, Film Department Chief Executive Mark Gill and Chief Operating Officer Neil Sacker said they were in talks with a group of previous and new investors to raise about $200 million in debt and equity to finance the business going forward. The executives declined to identify the investors, and the deal has yet to close. “We were probably too young a company to succeed in a difficult [stock] market,” Gill said. “But some of our investors came to us and said ‘We’ll do this with you privately.’ ” If the Film Department is able to close a new round of financing, it will produce between two and four movies each year and acquire another two to six, Gill said. The company hopes to take advantage of the dearth of independent distributors since studios such as Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. have shuttered labels that focus on low-budget prestige films. Disney recently struck a deal to sell its Miramax Films label to a group of investors led by Ron Tutor and Colony Capital. Instead of putting its own movies in theaters, the Film Department has a three-year deal with the Weinstein Co. to handle theatrical distribution of its future movies, while the company plans to finance and market the pictures. The Film Department will also put its movies on Showtime as part of the Weinstein Co.’s deal with the pay network. Pay television deals are a key element in financing movies. Gill previously worked for Bob and Harvey Weinstein as head of marketing for Miramax Films when the brothers ran the Disney-owned independent film label. The Film Department has also signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to handle home video distribution for its movies. This Christmas, the Film Department will release its long-completed romantic comedy “The Rebound,” starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, which has already been released in most foreign markets. The company has another completed romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson, tentatively titled “Earthbound,” that it says it plans to release early next year. Gill said his company will make movies with budgets of between $15 million and $45 million and has 15 scripts in various stages of development. |

- Thanks to Jilly for the link to this article with an update on ‘Ass Backwards’. As a follow up to this post on Albany’s role in a new movie Sister Spirit and several reader comments and emails asking for more information on the movie, Times Union writer Paul Grondahl brings us this update on Albany’s next movie project. All Over Albany also had a chat with one of the producers Molly Conners, a Loudonville native, who also co-produced the Oscar-nominated Frozen River. While casting has not been officially released, there have been rumors about Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner. The movie website IMDb listed cast members Alicia Silverstone, Jon Cryer, Jason Ritter, Amy Sedaris and Melissa Leo under the movie’s original title, “Ass Backwards”. One of the screenwriters is Casey Wilson, a comedy writer, actress and SNL alumna who had small roles in Julie & Julia and Bride Wars. Wilson also is a contributor to popular clip site Funny or Die. According to Mike Romero, one of the producers, the stars (who apparently have appeared in other feature films) are scheduled to shoot scenes in Albany. “There are a lot of names of stars floating around, some of which are true and some of which are not,” Romero said. Sister Spirit will be filming in Albany for one more week and then shoot the rest of the film in New York City and Los Angeles. So far the movie has used Albany locations on Hamilton Street, Plastic nightclub on Pearl Street in downtown Albany and several other streets. Coming off of big dollar productions such as Salt and The Other Guys, Albany’s role in the independent Sister Spirit seems kept rather under wraps, but seems to be generating buzz for the Capital City nonetheless. |

They are apparently planning to move in together, so it’s no wonder Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy look more loved-up than ever. The Muse frontman couldn’t take his eyes off his Hollywood star girlfriend as they enjoyed a romantic drink at the Hotel Imperial Cafe in Vienna, Austria. Flashing a rare smile, Bellamy listened intently as Hudson chatted to him, apparently about a script she was reading while they sat together in the cafe’s terrace. The pair, who have been dating since June, were making the most of the picturesque city ahead of Muse’s performance at the Frequency festival. And it seems their relationship is going from strength to strength, as they were recently said to have started hunting for a house together in New York. They have apparently started looking for a suitable property which will house a music studio for the 32-year-old singer and a children’s room, sparking rumours they are planning to have a family together in the future. |

KATE Hudson hates watching herself on screen at the best of times. Even when she is playing the kind of effervescent, luminous, life-loving blonde in rom-coms such as Bride Wars, Fool’s Gold and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days for which she is so well known, Hudson cannot stand seeing herself act. So watching herself in controversial director Michael Winterbottom’s noir thriller The Killer Inside Me, in which she plays a small-town girl-next-door with a dark, masochistic side and a penchant for spankings, was almost unbearable. “I didn’t recognise even myself in it,” she says. “I have a really hard time watching movies I am in, so this was multiplied by 10. “I was totally captivated and disturbed, which is exactly what was supposed to happen. |
