Alex and Emma tells the story of writer Alex, who must finish a novel within 30 days to make enough money to pay the loan sharks ... trouble is, he's suffering from writers block. KATE SAYS...
» "I have always been a big Rob Reiner fan in general, I'd go out and see all his movies, so just the opportunity to work with him was a dream come true."
» [on her character Elsa] "..."the one that I think I loved! I mean beyond loved, because I want to do a spin off Elsa movie as she was so crazy. The second I was in my Elsa costume I would just start talking about her."
» [on the romantic scene with Luke Wilson] "I mean, as cute as he is, he is kind of like my brother. So it was a little awkward."
» "There's Swedish Elsa, German Eldora, and Spanish Ylva. To go from character to character, you totally lose yourself in each one. I just had so much fun."
» [on learning to use the stenographer machine] "I actually had the most beautiful coach who still writes me the most beautiful letters. I actually know how to work those machines now."
» [on Rob Reiner] "Rob is so much fun, because he's so political. When the camera went off, he'd get going on his issues. I learned a lot from him."

REVIEWS
ModaMag.com: "Kate Hudson is more suited for this breezy type of romantic comedy role, as she just gave the same performance in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” five months ago. Because Hudson is skilled with this material, and willing to step outside the tight comedy fence Reiner has erected, she can skate by with a little less scrutiny. Having to play multiple roles in the film as Alex‘s objects of desire, both literary and real, Hudson doesn’t whoop it up like she’s designed to do. It’s a dreary performance that plays well below Hudson’s gifts for comedy."
IndependentCritics.com: "I'll be the first to admit that I like Kate Hudson in virtually everything she does. Goldie Hawn's daughter can do no wrong in my book. I smile the instant she appears on screen. In this film ... Hudson's luminous charisma does just enough to single-handedly elevate this movie to a recommendable plateau. Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, she has very little chemistry with the male lead, played flatly by Luke Wilson."
JoBlo.com: "Despite a script that’s lacking in many original thoughts and funny ideas, the charismatic performances of these two endearing actors somehow gets you through it without too much damage done."
ESPY.ca: "Even Kate Hudson, who has been great in everything she's done so far, wasn't able to save this film, though I imagine it wasn't for lack of trying."

TRIVIA
{1} Was originally called 'Loosely Based On a True Love Story'
{2} Continuity: In the restaurant, the pepper on Emma's fork goes from a straight piece to one with a curly end and then back to the straight piece again.
{3} Continuity: On the second or third "day" of transcription, Alex and Emma are sitting on a couch talking. When Emma is facing away from the camera, her glasses are on her face and clearly visible. When the camera switches to shooting her straight on, they are hanging around her neck.
{4} Continuity: When Alex and Emma are talking in Alex's bedroom, the time on the alarm clock jumps forward and back several hours.
{5} Continuity: Alex's face is unshaven before he kisses Emma, and in the next shot (as they actually kiss) is completely smooth.
{6} Kate and Like met in 1999 when they were invited to a Eurythmics concert by their respective agents. Instead of listening to the music, they found themselves sharing a beer at the Staples Center bar. They remained close friends.

WORTH WATCHING FOR...
... the interesting premise - decide for yourself how it turned out! Kate also uses a number of accents in this film, while playing various characters, and that's also worth a watch.
