Kate Quoted
"I always had the most fun doing improv competitions in theater programs when I was younger, and that,s what I love about making comedies: the challenges of timing and physicality and improvisation."

Kate Hudson on Bride Wars
canmag.com, January 12th 2009

The hook of Bride Wars is that two best friends can't decide whether to share the one reservation their dream hotel has or to compete for the ultimate wedding. For the sake of comedy, they choose the latter. In real life, star Kate Hudson would be a team player and just go for a double wedding.

"I would've been like, 'The more fun we'll have, the bigger the party, the bigger the ballroom,'" she said. "In real life I probably wouldn't been like, 'I don't even know if I want to get married. Go ahead.' But then again there's that little part of you, like you said, where it's like, 'No, no, no. It's my one day.' It'd be kind of weird if one of the groom's vows were better."

After all the hijinks, the girls got emotional over their comedy bond, particularly near the end, when they were shooting the double wedding climax. "We sat there and did the scene and I look at her, she's off camera, and all of a sudden I'm starting to get a little teary eyed, I'll admit it. I look and Annie is getting teary eyed and I thought, 'I love being girls.' We were right there for each other and that's the movie, what it's about. There are a lot of good moments. There are some funny ones too. Annie is the best because she's like, 'I have this idea.' I say, 'Okay, what?' She'll say her idea and everyone is standing there and she goes, 'Okay, it was a really bad idea.' Annie is the first one to do that. It's so great. All of a sudden it's like, 'Okay, it wasn't a good idea.' It was so funny."

The inspiration for Hudson's character actually came from real life girlfriends too. "I feel like creatively I'm constantly watching other people and I have so many friends that are all so different and all things are different to other people. So I can relate to a lot whether it's me that's like that or my best girlfriend. I'm so not like Liv in terms of how my girlfriend is and who I sort of based the whole hair thing after. She's in the hair salon like two times a week. She won't dip her foot in water because her hair might get frizzy. That to me is Liv. I can't relate to that, but I can because I know someone who's like that and it cracks me up."

Hudson is already thinking about the possibilities of another Wars movie, sequel or spinoff. "It's so funny when we're talking about this as in success, if this movie was successful and we thought about doing another one how much fun we would have thinking about where our characters would go. It would be Baby Wars. It'd be great. I was just thinking about her character because we could go so many different ways. It'd be so fun."

Bride Wars is out in theaters now.
