Big thanks to Amanda for typing this transcript up for Kate Hudson Heaven.

Letterman: You look wonderful!
Kate Hudson: Thank you.
Letterman: You look wonderful, you smell great.
(Audience laughs) Now have you... You've not been here since you had the baby, is that right?
Kate Hudson: Ah... no. I think the last time i was here i was pregnant.
Letterman: Now, the baby's now 19 months old?
Kate Hudson: 19 months.
Letterman: Yeah well tell me about it, what's it like?
Kate Hudson: Oh, it's something new everyday. I mean he's talking, he's running and... mocking me.
Letterman: In what sense does he mock you?
Kate Hudson: Well, he does this one thing where he'll grab my purse and he'll kind of put it around his shoulder and he'll go "Ba bye! Ba bye!" (laughs)
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
Letterman: (laughs)
Kate Hudson: I kind of go, "I don't do... do i do that?" I mean, you know we are their first relationship, i guess that's how they learn.
Letterman: That's pretty funny though.
Kate Hudson: (laughs) That is pretty funny.
Letterman: And are you... When you're traveling on the road with your husband are you able to take the baby with you?
Kate Hudson: Yeah, we... we take him, he loves it, he really loves it and i was actually a little worried about it, but he, he took to it immediately. And it's kind of a little... Sometimes it dosen't feel so good, he rather be around the band sometimes than his mom, you know, which i understand. He's a boy, you know and, and that's you know... That's a lot of testosterone.
Letterman: How does he react around the cahos of like a concert and a lot of people and a lot of loud music?
Kate Hudson: He loves it!
Letterman: Yeah.
Kate Hudson: How about your son, i mean does he have... I mean is he ok with crowds and people and stuff?
Letterman: Well it's just me
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: (laughs)
Kate Hudson: I think, i think... I think that he feels... I don't know, i think that because we've been around, i mean he's been doing this...
Letterman: That's just his world.
Kate Hudson: Yeah, very comfotrable, i mean really comfortable, i mean one of his words that he knows is 'Tattoo'. You know that's a little...
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: Absolutely. Now it does bring an interesting question, at some point he may want a tattoo. Now how will you... Will you agree and like that? Will you let him get the tattoo?
Kate Hudson: What age are we talking about?
Letterman: Well i don't know. Let's say anything below 18?
Kate Hudson: No.
Letterman: Anything after 18 he's on his own...
Kate Hudson: After 18 he can do whatever he wants as long as... It's like my parents you know? When you're under our roof, our rules.
Letterman: That's right.
Kate Hudson: Right?
Letterman: That makes pretty good sense dosen't it?
Kate Hudson: Yeah.
Letterman: Now, when you were a kid did you understand how that worked?
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
Letterman: Ok, this is where i live... their rules... Their roof their rules. Did you understand?
Kate Hudson: No, i would get in fights with Pa about, you know, we'd go head to head and i'd be like "Fine, i'm getting myself an appartement". You know, "I'm out of here". You know...
Letterman: (laughs)
Kate Hudson: But you know i guess rules are supposed to... You know...I don't... I'm... I'm terrified.
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
Letterman: But now, looking back on your childhood and your adolescence in particular...
Kate Hudson: Yes.
Letterman: You probably are happy that there were rules and limits, right?
Kate Hudson: I don't know. I mean...
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: What do you mean you don't know?
Kate Hudson: Well... yeah?...
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: You have to have rules and limits. I mean it d...
Kate Hudson: You have to have boundaries I guess.
Letterman: That's right.
Kate Hudson: But aren't they made to be broken?
Letterman: No, no...
Kate Hudson: Come on! (laughs)
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: No, not as long as you're under my roof.
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
Letterman: You're not breaking any rules or boundaries.
(Audience applauds)
Letterman: But, but where have you travelled in going out with the band?
Kate Hudson: You know, everywhere, all of America pretty much and places i probably would have never seen otherwise... really strange places in the middle of America...
Letterman: Strange places like i mean you want to mention towns?
Kate Hudson: Well now i feel bad, now i'm gonna you know... (laughs) Now i'm...
Letterman: You mean strange in the sense that you've not been there.
Kate Hudson: Well, and just you know not much to do...
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: And, and you know one of the... Knoxville Tennessee was a little a...
Letterman: Comes right at the top of the list!
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: Well, (laughs) It was just, we definitely had to find our fun.
Letterman: (laughs)
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: But sometimes the fun... Those are the most fun, fun places, like we were outside of Cleveland and went bowling one time and we had a really good time cause we just went bowling you know, it was great and it was weird...
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: Right, but isn't... I think it's a tremendous personal education to just be able to travel the country and see how other people live and see the community and the geographic nature.
Kate Hudson: It's actually, it's actually amazing. I mean it's actually one of those experiences that i... You know i think is probably important to one what i do for a living and two, just be able to get out and see, and see America.
Letterman: For a million bucks would you go back to Knoxville?
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs) I'd go back for... I'd go back for two bucks.
Letterman: (laughs)
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: Alright we'll be right back with Kate Hudson.

COMMERCIALS

Letterman: Thank you very much. Kate Hudson, Michelle Wie. Now, do you know anything about Michelle Wie?
Kate Hudson: No, but i just met her. I just met her a... back... In the...
Letterman: I'm very excited about this. She's a word class golfer, she's 15 years old and...
Kate Hudson: She's incredible.
Letterman: Just tremendous. And, and it... Kind of just proving the notion that perhaps women could not necessarily compete against men in golf.
Kate Hudson: Yeah! And i mean you... You of all people would know those things that you have an Indy driver who, who's female.
Letterman: That's correct, yeah, same thing.
Kate Hudson: Yeah that's pretty amazing... incredible.
Letterman: Danica Patrick. People here before thought well... Women can't really compete against men in top line motorsports.
Kate Hudson: Which is... Ha, haha (laughs)
Letterman: But in... Sociologically it's a fascinating question, it's a fascinating thing to study don't you think?
Kate Hudson: What?
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: The, the fact...
Kate Hudson: That women, that women have a difficult time competing against men?
Letterman: No no no no. That doors are now opening and we have a new vista, a new horizon to observe in the next generation.
Kate Hudson: I hope so, that would be incredible.
Letterman: Yeah, yeah. And what about you as a kid? I know you played soccer didn't you?
Kate Hudson: I did (laughs) I played, i played soccer... Well, you know i mean Kurt was my dad...
Letterman: Kurt Russell.
Kate Hudson: Yeah, Kurt, yes.
(Audience applauds) And , and i grew up with all boys, so i always had to compete against something and, and i was actually quite athletic and soccer i was actually really good at it. I could have gone to... i could have gone to... I got some letters for some...
Letterman: You could have gone to college on a soccer scholarship?
Kate Husdon: Yeah. I could have, yeah, i could have, i could have...
Letterman: You regret not doing it?
Kate Hudson: A...(laughs) Well, actually what happened was i looked at my legs one day and they were actually getting quite large. And i, and i went "Am i really going to be a soccer player?" Cause i love it. Still to this day i wish i could be in a competitive sport, cause it's part of my nature. But i said no, you know, i want to act.
Letterman: You mean your legs were getting muscular?
Kate Hudson: Very muscular, very muscular. Yeah. Kurt has, he likes to go back at the old footage that he tapped me over at soccer and you know it's... Like with everything he'll call me up randomly and be like: "You know Kate, you could have been a really good soccer player". "You could have been". And then i'll watch the old footage and be like 'It was... I was really good.' I had that athlete...
Letterman: Did you see a movie that your father started in called 'Miracle' ?
Kate Hudson: Yes.
Letterman: I'm telling you, i watched this movie and i thought that was wall to wall, one of the finest acting jobs i've ever seen in my life.
(Audience applauds)
Kate Hudson: (applauds) I know it was unbelievable, unbelievableble.
Letterman: And what a...What a great movie. What a lovely re-enactment of an actual event that was life altering for Americans and tremendous portrayal.
Kate Hudson: It was just... It was amazing. I... You know, i mean when you're watching a movie and it's your dad and you don't even see a trace of your father on a performance is...
Letterman: Yeah.
Kate Hudson: Yeah, ahem... It wasen't...
Letterman: Where were your legs getting muscular?
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs) Kind of about... No, no...
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: No, but you know it's funny cause, cause Kurt wasen't anything like Herb Brooks in terms of... You know my dad was the kind of dad who would sccrrreeaaam at every referee. My coach... You know i was like 10 and he'd be like:"Wait a minute! What do you think you're doing!" He's like "You gotta put your best players out there to win the game!"
Letterman: (laughs)
Kate Hudson: And you're like... Pa! You know i'm like 10.
Letterman: Chill.
(Audience laughs)
Kate Hudson: (laughs)
Letterman: Now speaking of things that are just gonna make people (shake). Is this movie, Skeleton Key and it's about... It takes place in New Orleans and there's a lot of voodoo going on.
Kate Hudson: Yeah, it's that hoodoo! It's like a... yeah.
Letterman: Which do you prefer hoodoo or voodoo?
Kate Hudson: A... I, neither. They scare me a little.
Letterman: A... yeah that thing is scary. You go in and take care of a guy and all hell breaks loose.
Kate Hudson: Yeah, i play a hospice worker and i go to the bayou to work with this family and i start to uncover this room, that's a 'voodoo room'. And then it just starts to go crazy.
Letterman: Now you know what we're gonna see here? We're gonna show a clip.
Kate Hudson: This is when i do something that i probably shouldn't have and Gena's character, Violet, sort of confronts me.
Letterman: Let's take a look. Skeleton Key, Kate Hudson, it opens Friday.

THE SKELETON KEY MOVIE CLIP

Kate Hudson: Woo!
(Audience applauds) It's really fun, it's got a great ending and i'm really excited for it.
Letterman: You'd be on the edge of your seat the whole thing?
Kate Hudson: It really does and then the ending is one of those endings where it makes you go "What? What?".
Letterman: Oh i know what the ending was. I know exactly what the ending was.
Kate Hudson: No you don't...
Letterman: Yes i do! It was all a dream.
Kate Hudson: (says no with her head)
(Audience laughs)
Letterman: You... (laughs) I think it was all a dream... Everything's fine in the end! Alright, now listen, take care of the baby for me.
Kate Hudson: Ok.
Letterman: It's a pleasure to see you again.
(They shake hands)
Kate Hudson: It's nice to see you too!
Letterman: Kate Hudson ladies and gentleman!
(Audience applauds) We'll be right back with Michelle Wie!
