How does Kate keep in shape?
THE PREGNANCY WEIGHT
It is well known Kate gained 60lbs whilst pregnant, and then lost it within a few months of giving birth. Kate says
she did this by using a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet that was high in protein and low in carbs and doing three-hour
daily workouts. Kate lost 40lbs in 10 weeks by cutting back on white flour and doing two and a half hours of cardio,
weights, pilates and yoga every day. For a treat, she was allowed tiny fruit smoothies.
FITNESS & EXERCISE
As for keeping fit, Kate is a fan of Yoga and dance. When she was younger she played a lot of soccer, and considered
playing it professionally, until she realised her knees were getting really big! Now, she likes to play volleyball
and golf when she gets the time, and is interested in pool, though she admits that's not really a sport. Kate has
3 dogs and is often spotted out and about walking them. She says that having a young son keeps her fit as he is
always on the move! In 2006 Kate enthusiastically talked about her new love of pole dancing, saying it's fun and
great to keep her in shape - "It’s not only a good way to keep fit but great fun too. It has helped develop my
upper body strength, and the exercise burns tons of calories as well as toning all your muscles. My body has
completely changed shape.” Recently (October 2006) she has been photographed cycling out and about in Malibu.
DIET & FOOD
Kate admits that she doesn't watch what she eats for dietary purposes, but to get extra energy. But she cheats!
"There's this really great restaurant in Greenwich Village called Babbo, and I can't go there without eating everything.
One of my favourite dishes is the goose liver ravioli with the balsamic brown butter sauce." Kate loves to cook for
Chris, and his favourites include steak and apple pie. Her younger brother Wyatt also reveals that she makes great
chocolate-chip cookies.

watch my weight when I'm pregnant? I ate whatever the hell I wanted."
"Because you're not perfectly skinny you're not thought to be as appealing which I think is false. Besides,
who wants to be perfect? It's so ugly."
"I am by nature an active person, a dancer ... a thin person with a high metabolism, so fortunately I
don't have to work at it."
